The electoral college was created to give under populated rural states a say in national elections because compared to the coast the votes from rural states simply can't compete. The other original reason was to force candidates to visit rural states rather than simply campaigning on the coast where the elections would be won and lost. With TV today the latter is less important, however, the scenario where the heavily populated coasts would decide the election still holds true. The east and west coasts typically go heavily democratic, in fact, most densely populated regions in our country vote heavily democratic. If the electoral college were abolished the rural vote would become less influential and thus hinder republican efforts to win the presidency, so I say again, lets go for it! One person, One vote.....
