Lola, as to the first part that would be the ideal scenario, but the problem has become much larger than just overfinanced people losing their homes. It has become a credit crisis on all fronts, trickling down to everyone, even though you may not be seeing it just yet.

In a word, YES, at least for a short period of time IF the senate and house do not come to some sort of agreement on the bailout bill. All of this is "worst case scenario" and I personally find it hard to comprehend, BUT our son predicted the housing and subsequent banking collapse nearly three years ago. Our take is, it never hurts to play it safe.
