Martin Short--(As Martin Short said on Letterman just after the debate, "The only time McCain doesn't have to pee is when he's peeing.")

Arrianna Huffington--This debate was won on the reaction shots. Every time Obama spoke, McCain grimaced, sneered, or rolled his eyes. By contrast, every time McCain was on the attack, Obama smiled. It was like watching a split-screen double feature -- Grumpy Old Men playing side by side with Cool Hand Luke.

A Democratic researcher spent the evening counting the Arizona Republican's blinks, and tallied more than 3,000 during the night's affair -- three thousand blinks in a 90-minute time span.

John Rogers: John McCain is full of crap. Blaming Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac for the financial meltdown is like blaming the dead canary for the mine explosion. They were leading symptoms, not causes.

“Torturing Democracy,” a documentary examining the Bush administration’s detention and interrogation policies, will be shown on WNET in New York on Thursday and on a grab bag of other public television stations nationwide in coming weeks. But some of the country’s viewers will have to watch online if they want to see the program anytime soon because PBS decided that no national airdate was available until Jan. 21, a day after a new presidential administration takes office. “Torturing Democracy” can be seen at torturingdemocracy.org.

Barack Obama: "If I were watching Fox News, I wouldn't vote for me, right? Because the way I'm portrayed 24/7 is as a freak! I am the latte-sipping, New York Times-reading, Volvo-driving, no-gun-owning, effete, politically correct, arrogant liberal. Who wants somebody like that?"

Bon Jovi is mad at Sarah Palin for using their "Who Says You Can't Go Home" song at her rallies. The band joines a list of musical acts including Heart, Jackson Browne, the Foo Fighters and Van Halen that are mad at their songs being used at McCain-Palin events.

The results over at CBS show Obama to have scored the biggest victory to date: "Fifty-three percent of the uncommitted voters surveyed identified Democratic nominee Barack Obama as the winner of tonight's debate. Twenty-two percent said Republican rival John McCain won. Twenty-four percent saw the debate as a draw."

Mike Barnicle: Now, with less than three weeks to the end, he comes to the country staggering toward defeat, his pride and honor certainly diminished by the incoherence of his campaign and the absurdity of the choice he agreed to when it came to picking someone who would share a national ticket charged with talking, coaxing, massaging the country through a tough and turbulent time. And as the clock winds toward the conclusion, America looks and listens to a different John McCain than the man who captured so many hearts when he first ran for president, only eight years ago. That guy is MIA, missing in action, held captive by ideologues who dominate his strategy sessions and what is left of the Republican party.

Bartcop: If Ralph Nader wants to make a difference, let him run for a House seat.

Researchers at the Scripps Research Institute in California found that marijuana's active ingredient, THC, can prevent an enzyme from accelerating the formation of "Alzheimer plaques" in the brain more effectively than commercially marketed drugs.
