Perhaps it would be more logical to setup an "early voter check-in" period where you could go in and check your registration and show whatever is needed to authenticate you ahead of time to be sure you're good to go on election day? They could also let you select a time slot when you intend to vote on election day and regulate the number of voters assigned per time slot so the wait wouldn't be long for anyone, and with the pre-registration it should go pretty smoothly. If done this way a "bum rush" at a polling place could be anticipated and eliminated, or additional voting machines added to handle the rush. It seems like a no-brainer to me if your goal is to have a smooth election and allow everyone to vote....
