It is critical that both Republicans and Democrats and Independents work together after the election to solve the very serious problems affecting our country. Among the reasons I am so distressed over the highly negative and personal attacks by the GOP and their proxy is how it drives a wedge between folks in different parties, a wedge that will be hard to remove once the election is over.

The McCain campaign and GOP operatives hasn't figured out there is a difference in a negative ad criticzing one's policies and a negative ad which are personal attacks. Look at NC where Liddy Dole has stooped so low as to fake her opponent's voice saying "there is not God." How low. Then when Dole is called on it, she doesn't give up but runs another ad, just as bad. I'm sure there a lots of legitimate differences between Dole and Hagan that could have be on the ads and that actually provide information about the candidate's positions. I hope this tactic is not rewarded by Dole winning.

I admire the Obama campaign's efforts at sticking to the issues, and ignoring the garbage that is being thrown at it. It has not been easy.

I hope that an Obama victory will make some of the opposition reflect on the negative role of character assasination in this campaign.

I shutter to think about how McCain would try to mend fences in the event he wins. He has lost so many people's respect and ostracized many who previously supported him. I don't see him effectively "crossing the aisle." And if Obama is President I predict that McCain's bitterness towards Obama will deepen to McCain's detriment.

As usual, this is just my opinion.

Just 48 more hours.

Don't wake up on Wendesday wishing you had done more in the campaign.
