Today NPR had a story addressing this issue. They say their policy since the Ford administration is to refer to the President with his title the first time in a story "President Obama" and thereafter in the same story they use "Mr. Obama."

I can't say that I've noticed before, but maybe that is because I never considered GWB to be my president?
