Judge-Brother

"That Was Jamaica: My Adventures in Negril" (2011) chronicles his 27-year "bittersweet love affair" with Jamaica. In each of his seven trips to Negril from 1983 to 2010, he writes that he stayed in a simple, low-budget cottage resort populated by colorful travelers, run by a matriarch, Miss Julia, and staffed by her offspring. Prior to his trip, Wiatt's brother, George had made yearly visits to Negril from 1975 and was well known. Wiatt becomes known as George's brother (pronounced as "Judge-Brother").

"Jamaicans will call you what they wish and there is nothing you can do about it," he writes. With each trip Wiatt describes changes in Negril, Miss Julia, her family and himself.
