Hurricane delays. Help asked.

dilemma - planning around a hurricane

Today's news says Tropical Storm Jose is in the Atlantic, and S.W. of him is Tropical Storm Maria.

(Thought storms keep the same sex per year. Scratch that theory/belief. lol)

While my ticket at the end of Oct will hopefully be fine, I want to make a short trip either Oct 2 or Oct 9 - a Monday.

If I used one airline, there would be no problem. Delays and reschedules are the airlines problem. Me, no problem.

Because of the need/want to use credits about to expire of both cash and miles, the ideal situation would be to use separate airlines.
The dilemma is a delay going down could result in a zero or one day vacation. The northbound airline would require a change - a costly change since they would respond "Not our problem."

Note that attempts to get a low fair by using 2 airlines in one direction can backfire if plane #2 leaves before plane #1 arrives. That's why I don't do this (anymore.) Same tale when using only one airline too when you have to overnight at the airport because there is no later plane AND there is no compensation. Weather always exempts cash, I think.

Can anyone predict the weather for me? Or might trip/travel insurance deal with arriving in Ja the same day of the return flight ticket date?
