In Response To: Economic Scholars Oppose Bailout (Firemon)

Thanks for this Firemon...the ethics issue is at the top of my list. I also just posted under another thread saying this was a scaremonging Bush tactic. I cannot believe the amount of money they want to float will help and will drag the pain out unnecissarily long. But, unfortunately after that 777 drop in the Dow today, I suspect they will end up doing this after all.

The goverment needs to address the underlying fraud issues; femove the conflicts of interest between holding companies and financial companies by replacing the Glass Stegall Act pieces repealed in 1999; replace the bank regulatory changes Carter removed in 1980; rewrite the rules on mortgage pools removing diversigfication, and use short term lending with strings requiring hte banks to decouple these large mortgage pools and change bankruptcy laws to capture monies lost on fraudlent loans. This last one will make those home borrowers who committed fraud and got bad loans hold the porperty unitl, reducing foreclosures until the market recovers.
