Seriously?
What do I get out of it?
I get that the article was about a nauseatingly racist action that HAPPENED to be focused on Obama. I guess if it were just your average black man perhaps there would be less of a "who gives a shit" attitude? It's okay to skip over the content of the article, the innate violence of the action, because it was a democratic candidate hanging from a tree?
BMD didn't advocate a thing. He stated an opinion that racist behaviors like this, and thinking along the same lines, will affect how people vote. Personally, I agree and feel that as the election date gets closer, we'll see more of this crap happening and more (on another level not associated with the effigy issue) "oopsie we don't really endorse that" actions by Conservative party members who can get their "message" into the public eye, let it do its thing and affect public opinion while the heads of the party do what they do: throw up their hands and say gosh, we didn't send that email around about Obama being a Muslim! We didn't endorse that character assassination! And why do they have to? Once the media gets hold of it the damage is done.
And I'm sorry, it's been discussed ad nauseam, but if "you" (and that would be the royal you) cannot believe that many Americans who would otherwise be on board with Obama will NOT vote for him because of the color of his skin. Because of his name. Racial justice and equality in this country is markedly improved in schools, the workplace, housing, etc...but in hearts and minds of many of the Joe or Joelle Average American in BOTH PARTIES, not so. If you'd like, I can dig up empirical data and case studies from MY work in the field, but I'm sure it will be poo-pooed as typical liberal drivel.
