Currently, while one cannot catch lobster during the off season, one may still eat lobster that was caught in season and frozen. According to this article, next year that will change and folks will not be allowed to consume lobster during the off season.

I have often felt conflicted over eating lobster off season, even when I have been assured it was caught legally and frozen. It is just too easy for a restaurant to say the lobster was legally caught. While this rule may not be popular with tourists, I think it will help the lobster population and make the season ban more enforcable.

This article also refers to "lobster condos" that are being built. That created some pretty funny images in my mind.
