What I heard on Meet the Press was that Obama gave that money to a different organization who then gave a portion of it to ACORN to help support their ability to go out and register voters. It is no surprise to anyone that Obama believes in grass roots activism and uses that process to raise money, enroll voters and promote volunteerism. ACORN has historically been the largest (based on the info given on this program) grass roots organization for reaching disparate communities for voter registration.
In every large organization, especially non profits (I worked for Greenpeace for several years) there are people whose fanaticism goes beyond the values and culture of the organization. It is ridiculous to believe that Obama encouraged or anticipated voter registration fraud. ACORN is also trying to find out who would have created this strategy. It was done so poorly (obviously not well thought out) in terms of getting caught, that I find it easy to believe it was perpetuated by a few not so savvy or intelligent members of ACORN (OR SOMEONE ELSE). Surely if OBama maliciously wanted to cause voter fraud, a more sophisticated strategy would have been implemented. This is kindergarten kind of stuff.
