I've been doing it for about 30 years....always this time of year when it starts to get chilly, clocks change etc.
WINTER SQUASH DINNER
cut and scoop out the seeds from a couple of squash...butternut, acorn, delicata or whatever you have.
Start the oven for 350* and place the squash face down in a bit of water in a covered pan.
While that's heating, brown about 1/2 lb. of that bulk sausage, (You can do this without the sausage and it's still really good.)
then add to the same pan: 1 med onion sliced, then 2 cups of shredded cabbage, then 1 large apple sliced.......
let it all cook tog. with a little S&P........add a drop of water or cider or something if it looks dry..cook together till it's all together and the cabbage has cooked down.
take out the partially cooked squash and flip and fill with this mixture and return to oven to cook for about an hour....or till your house smells so fantastic you want to bottle it....
ENJOY!
