This time of year we are overwhelmed with shows here in Negril. I love Bunny Wailer and had even intention to go to see him, but after New Years Eve out, I was tired and there was a power outage for a long time, so I figured I'd stay nice and comfy in my own yard.
I will say in response to Sis Irie, shows are not affordable to many locals and it's a damn shame. There are many artistes who come to perform in Negril who are talented and deserve to be paid, but when you have one on Monday night at $700 - $1,000 a ticket, another on Wednesday and yet another on Saturday and maybe one inbetween that, who can afford it. Tourist can afford possibly more then some and they may only be here for one week, so they'll pay. I really feel that many of the promoters spite themselves by over charging. When the cost excludes most locals to attend, then lower the price even by $200 and allow more to attend as well as boast up the vibes in the place, which ultimately is 50% or more of going to a show. Nah true? We love the artistes but the vibes have to be there to make it all good. Greedy people promoting many of the shows and it's not working. To make up from the loss of a past show, they jack up the price of a current show, and then the cycle continues. I have to pick and choose carefully in a season, can't afford to go to every show, nor would I want to.
Right now I'm focused on Rebel Salute and nothing else means much to me, since we're on the home stretch till the 17th. What a night that will be. It's the ONLY show I look forward to every year. Trust me on that!
