I think you may have put your finger right on the issue, McCain was thrown off his feet so badly be the economy this week that he hasn't been able to prepare for the foreign policy debate this Friday.
Besides that, I think the McCain camp fears that the economy would HAVE to be mentioned somehow in this debate due to the current crisis, even though the topic is supposed to be foreign policy. If Obama were to land a carefully crafted blow on McCain during the debate, like laying out a few McCain quotes bragging about his deregulation of investment banks, that could be the death blow for McCain, specially if done during the heat of this crisis.
Bottom line, Sarah Palin doesn't have the qualifications to be president so she can't talk to anyone, and since McCain has such a long record of deregulation in the senate he can't debate during this economic crisis.
I think we are now officially dealing with the....
