One of my grad students has a charity organization for the Dominican Republic and works very hard here in the US to get aid (mostly in the health care field) for her organization. Her heart is totally in it. I think there are a great many many MORE people working on issues in charity in the nations of Haiti/Dominican Republic that you realize. World wide, the "press" does pretty much ignore those who are doing such great deeds unless they are of celebrity status.

I'm proud to report that the local newspaper where I live regularly reports on one of the local country churches acts of charity around the world. I can't even remember the name of the church, but it is in "Stephentown NY" and they also do charity work in Jamaica.
