I work with students every day who have different family constellations. We try to teach elementary students to have respect for their classmates regardless of their family situations. And to have some empathy for others. We find that the students do a GREAT job of this, accepting others who're different than they are, and that this "holding environment" allows each student to go forward proudly in the day & do the very best that s/he can at school. I think it is interesting that little people are typically better at this than "big people," i.e, adults. Once they get to the junior high school age, they can be quite judgmental & toxic to others, putting others down & criticizing them for things that they have no control over. Please, let's not stoop to cheap shots at people based on their family situations; let's learn from our younger counterparts, who are more mature than we adults are most of the time!
