Meet the Press tomorrow. Will he endorse anyone? As a Republican amd firm supporter of war intelligence and making the case for war, he sits in a very precarious position. Obama says there were no WMD's and that Bush got it wrong and lied. The Secretary of State supported the issue and this sits in the Obama line of attack.
If he endroses Obama, he will lose all credibility and be viewed as choosing based on race. If he chooses McCain, he will be seen as a party boy and as many have called him "An Uncle Tom". Race clearly could be seen an issue. His best bet...endorse no one.
Colin Powell appeared before the UN and made the case that Iraq had WMD's providing pictures of trucks allegedly used as mobile transports for WMD's and spoke to the IRAQ threat. He made the case to the UN, the American people and Congress that Iraq had WMD's and war may be necessary and advcoated and defended the war resolution and was instrmental in Congressional actions:
"Secretary of State Colin L. Powell, in the face of such comments, departed from his prepared text on terrorism and implored his colleagues to remember that the Security Council resolution passed unanimously Nov. 8 gave Iraq "a last chance" to meet its obligations. "We must not shrink from our duties and our responsibilities when the material comes before us next week," Powell said. He used a variation of the phrase "must not shrink" three more times as he addressed the council."

He later defended the intelligence:

Bush and Powell were on the same page. Will be interesting for sure and any choice will be most controversial.
