I know little of birds but it looks to me like their photographic evidence was not accepted or their expertise not recognized amongst the Powers That Be in the scientific community because since this topic came up I checked several websites and it is NOT officially not extinct. The couple told me in a thank you letter after hanging around here and snapping shots on 4 or 5 occasions when 1 or two of the things came, it was their pro opinion it was the ivory billed. I see them mostly in winter up yo early spring. I haven't seen them in weeks.
Looks like the 50k is going to slip through my fingers though as I looked all over the woodpiles at my fire pit and two piles at back of yard and could not find any black, white, or red feathers. Sigh... this is why I never gamble.... except with adventure of course.
I plan to move back to S Fla this summer after 5 years here so my big shot at a windfall is probably over. Never saw them here in summer before.
Still, in a week I go to Yard for a month and will see plenty of birds there, as I will be in the country most of the trip.
On that note Bird Lady, any Mandeville area bird-watching stops I should make?
