Re: Negril Noise Abatement issues
In Response To: Negril Noise Abatement issues ()

Negril has grown to become a party town. On any one night there as much as six parties going on across the town sometimes. Many of them are open air parties.

Development and growth brings with it competing interests. Four competing interests are here. One the environment, entertainment, big hotels and the local people whose niche is slowly been taken away.

My view is that most people will tolerate some level of music.Issues faced from from time to time are determining the level, continued management of that level and the so call screaming DJ'S. I know it is not hard to eliminate the screaming Dj's. The other two has always been difficult.

Some people are talking about zoning. They want the parties to go about 2 miles out of Negril. The Negril Cluster has an entertainment zone area which has not yet been accepted by the wider community. One police superintendent said some years ago that if he was to truly enforce the noise abatement act the only place he sees for entertainment (music) was out in the sea.

Negril has grown and are evolving. It is definitely not a little quite fishing village anymore. It is no more just little cottages in Negril that doted the place in the 70's to mid 80's. These era if not dead are fast dying. Is there any chance of them returning? I don't think so.

During the above times all party were held under the moon and star lights. They would go in the weee hours of the morning or until day light. Those are nostalgic times in Negril for many visitors to Negril.

NEW ERA IS SHAPING
By the late 80's bigger and bigger hotels start to come on stream in recent years we started to see mega one's. These hotels are competing for every thing relating to the business. They never use to carry restaurant now all of them are. They never use have major entertainment inside now all of them are, even the jerk chicken man them try to get removed from the streets just to name a few.

So after the major hotels take all the various legs and arms of the business the locals are left with only there culture and music.

Many now have to wait for the major hotels to finish doing there thing. So they put on concerts, parties, etc and sometimes play the music load to draw people in.

Out comes the social engineering tool. It hammer's some and leave some. The tool is now a social weapon. Local people starting to wonder what is happening because they see their parties are been hammers even on New Years Eve Night.

In Jamaica traditional on New Years Eve Night people start getting out of their homes minutes before New Year to celebrate the coming of the New Year. Some ringing in the New Year in church others ringing it in at there favorite spots and then party way into the morning or until day light.

In the last few years the social engineering tool came out and started to hammer these parties...
