I don't know, sounds good on the surface, and it is certainly a good rule to live by, I'll agree with that. But in the context of the banking and mortgage sector failures which she was speaking about, coupled with all of the talk recently from the republicans about how loaning money to "minorities" caused this problem, doesn't that kinda add up to mean poor and minority folks shouldn't get a chance to own a home?
I still maintain, if the economy were stronger here we wouldn't be in crisis, it isn't just regular folks buying McMantions when they should be buying McShacks that caused this crisis. We have a lot of problems in this country right now that need GOVERNMENT attention, because we have had a government for 8 years that believes government IS the problem and shouldn't be involved in anything but cutting taxes and starting wars. The health insurance industry is OUT OF CONTROL, charging through the roof premiums and still not covering you properly when you need them. Poor health care and lack of health care insurance has forced many solid folks into bankruptcy and out of their homes. The employment situation has contributed to this crisis as well, so many good jobs have been lost, now a days you will see skilled and educated people working jobs like drive up windows, whatever they can get, because they need to pay their bills and support their families. Most of these people didn't expect their careers to evaporate, they didn't expect our country would take such a nose dive after the Clinton years and leave them working a drive up window to feed their kids, and didn't expect to face forclosure on their homes. I find it quite judgmental for people to point their finger at the working people and put the blame on them for this crisis, if good jobs were still available in this country most of them would be making their mortgage payments still.
Of coarse there were speculators, and people who bought giant homes based on payments estimated with ultra low flexible rate mortgages, but I would be willing to bet when this situation is finally over and the data is analyzed you will find the crumbling of the US economy in general and the evaporation of the middle class during the Bush years is the cause of this crisis. Of coarse, just my opinion...
