True, true to a certain extent.
That said, what about the 90 year old woman in Ohio that just shot herself while Sheriffs tried to evict/foreclose on her?
The problem, the real problem, is that while yes indeed MANY Americans have fallen prey to the "gimme gimme" syndrome (myself included. I was a child of the 80s Reagan Era. I learned from the effing pros)---blaming the entire situation on people living beyond their means is essentially crap.
If the current administration had not tanked this economy, only those truly living beyond their means would be facing foreclosure. When a family who earned 85k collectively a year ago is now collecting from their local food bank, something is wrong. When families and singles are paying hundreds of dollars into a corrupt health care system that barely covers basic health, something is wrong. When we are bleeding billions of dollars a year to "fix" other countries while also suffering human expenditure and 90 year olds are shooting themselves because they cannot afford a 45k mortgage taken out 4 years ago (yeah, not exactly a MC Mansion), something is wrong.
We were stampeded here to ‘vote’ for something that doesn’t help homeowners, that doesn’t do anything about foreclosures, that doesn’t help those people who have been forced into bankruptcy while we bleed military money and are looking for a way out. As a matter of fact, it made sure they can’t get out. So, who’s this for? It’s for speculators. It’s to play a game that provides some temporary help in the market, and, you know, you might see an uptick today. We should have been ready to find a way for Wall Street to address its problems WITHOUT having to tap the increasingly diminishing resources of the federal taxpayers.
The market will rally for a few days after the passage of this sickening bailout. Then it will return to chaos, and the billionaires will continue to get paid while Main Street still barely holds on. The so called provisions for Main Street are stop gap measures that will be quietly modified into an early grave. As usual, the government will wave something shiny in front of our eyes and we'll forget all about it while they bury the remains.
