Wooo...settle down there vermontirie...if you think i was attacking you personally in any fashion, you are completely incorrect and if you go back and reread my post you will see that what I say here is quite true. I never stated a thing about your beliefs or ideology, rather you did in your support of government programs.
As for the alleged bullshit, are you aware that those who have been most hurt are low income people? Many were steered into bad loans and some others knew exactly what they were doing. And this is not an opinion of mine, but what is being reported by others. And I never said that the middle class and others were uneffected or not responsible. I have strongly stated my position here and elsewwhere that unscrupupous mortgage brokers and bankers and those that lied on the loans should be rooted out and punished and have even stated I believe the underlying problem is based in a decreasing sense of morality, a lack ofaccountibility and a general derision of attitude towrds ehtics. That is how i feel for the record.
However, if you go and look at the main driver that prevents anyone from doing anything about the problems, each time the Dems put up a road block it was in the name of low income housing and credit. That is undeniably true and the record speaks for itself.
Vermontirie...You are corrcet: I am not an ignroant man and my statements were not based in ignorance. You are correct thathtey are based in a conservative mindset from a fiscal standpoint although I would be labeled sociaaly liberal, so a "good conservative" characterization is a stretch. For the record, most of the people in my family are poor including my only sister and her family. They almost fell victim to someone who wanted to give them a $190,000 mortgage which once the teaser rate ended, they would newver have afforded it. And it was adjustable. That was a few years back. More recently there was nother issue I protected her from alongwith my mother I won;t go into. And when they were looking for an apartment and almost got scammed, I hunted down the investigating officer and imparted the importance to him that poor people who scraped togehter every last penny to get an apatment were being robbed and would be left homeless. The scunmbag was caught thank goodness.
Look, I am for anyone owning a house so long as they can pay their bills and still eat and clothe themselves. Many cannot and many old people been hit very hard by this thing too. Many of htese people cannot even comprehend the documents they are signing and rely on the lying sales brokers. One out of five people are funcitonally illiterate in this country and most of them fall into this category.
That aside, I spoke to several things aside from mortgages including keeping interest rates falsely low and expanding all types of credit including credit cards, consumer loans and car loans. And how about payday loans?...they hurt poor people and people in the service primarily. When there have been moves here in PA to get rid of them, the screams are that poorer people need these things. Maybe some do, but if they are that poor, they certainly cannot be paying those astronomical rates.
The theories are nice, they really are. But those in these situations are left to live with the realities, not the nice ideas. Whne programs meant to do good bring harm, should these programs not be reevaluated? Should these people not be protected even if from themselves?
