Read "A World Transformed" By George H. W. Bush. In this book "W's" father details why he did not storm Baghdad and take over Iraq in the first Golf War. He AND DICK CHENEY detailed all of the reasons, including the effect on the cost of oil/gas, cost to our country, damage to economy, death toll, strain on our military, and foreign relations, they detailed it all in this book and it looked exactly like the nightmare it turned out to be, that's why they DIDN'T do it! The book is HUGE, about 2-1/2 inches thick, and quite a read. I suggest you pick yourself up a copy and dig in, and get yourself up to speed for the reality this is coming to a town near you very soon...
